G404 - Generator Protection

3.5 days - 2.2 Continuing Education Units Awarded

At the completion of this Seminar, the participant will be able to discuss the fundamentals of Generator Protection, to include one-line diagramming, relaying fundamentals, a basic relaying channels, relay coordination and zoning, as well as various voltage, current, and differential protection schemes used in power systems.

OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this Seminar the participant will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to interpret generator one-line diagrams.
  2. Explain the purpose of a protective relay.
  3. Describe the different types of relays available.
  4. Discuss a basic relay circuit.
  5. Explain the importance of relay coordination.
  6. Discuss current and voltage transformers used in protective relaying schemes.
  7. Discuss a current, voltage, or differential relaying scheme, from the development of a signal to providing a protective function.
  8. Discuss differential relaying and its applications in a power system in protecting generators, transformers, and buses from overloads and faults.
