G539 - (GE) EX2100 Voltage Regulator

5 days - 3.2 Continuing Education Units Awarded
On-Site-Only

Excitation System reliability and availability can be a matter of skilled routine maintenance activity and proficient troubleshooting capability. Proficient troubleshooting is greatly aided by a solid operational understanding of the excitation system and its voltage regulator. This course gives technicians and engineers the necessary knowledge to maintain, repair and calibrate an Excitation System with the EX2100 Voltage Regulator:

  1. Using effective routine maintenance practices.
  2. Knowing what checks may be performed on-line and how to perform these checks without causing an equipment shutdown.
  3. Understanding the use of OEM provided toolbox software.
  4. Increasing the likelihood of accurate problem diagnosis by thoroughly understanding how the equipment operates.
  5. Increasing the likelihood of accurate problem diagnosis by understanding any given circuit's impact upon operations; i.e., quickly linking the symptom(s) to the faulty circuit.
  6. Verifying suspected faulty circuit by analyzing voltage levels and/or signal traces.
  7. Understanding the necessary calibrations, after the faulty part has been replaced, including how the calibrations are performed.

HPC's EX2100 Excitation System course makes heavy use of prints, information available from the toolbox software, on which the participants are encouraged to take notes. This provides a valuable reference for future use. In addition, the student manuals contain a complete description of the excitation system operation.

This course is intended for electrical technicians and engineers.

OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this course the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss how an excitation system accomplishes voltage and VAR control.
  2. Discuss the primary and secondary roles of an excitation system.
  3. Discuss the major excitation system components, including limit and protective features.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to make use of EX2100 hardware, software and drawing system.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge regarding the Manual and automatic regulator operation, calibration and troubleshooting.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge regarding the Protective (UEL, OEL and V/Hz) regulator operation, calibration and troubleshooting.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge regarding the operation of the EX2100 keypad for online and offline troubleshooting and maintenance.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge regarding the use of the Control System Toolbox for online and offline troubleshooting and maintenance
